This popular landmark is best observed from the right bank of River Salaca. The 20-metre-high and 90-metre-long sandstone rock not only looks impressive but also generates the strongest echo in Latvia, which may only be experienced on the right bank of the Salaca. Hence the name – Skaņaiskalns (the Sounding Mountain).
A park near the mountain is a great recreational area with wooden sculptures along the trails that are perfect for longer walks, and that become skiing tracks during the winter.
Skaņaiskalns is also popular with boaters, as this is one of the most beautiful sections of the Salaca River.
