Jāņa Čakstes boulevard promenade

Mītava Bridge is the longest pedestrian and cycling bridge in Latvia. Mitava Bridge connects the centre of Jelgava to Pasta Island. Its length is 152 meters. Moreover, this bridge is considered to be unique in all the Baltic States, because it is shaped in the form of the letter “S” of Latin alphabet and is suspended on 28 cables, hold by 2 pylons. You can go for a walk along the promenade of Janis Chakste Boulevard, which is constructed on two levels – along the river and parallel to the street. On the upper level, you can enjoy two observation platforms, which form 3-meter high waterfalls.

The sculpture-fountain “Student of Jelgava” is located on Janis Chakste Boulevard next to the Mitava Bridge. It has become a symbol of good luck for the residents of Jelgava. If you touch the stick of the student’s umbrella, be sure – luck is already next to you!

Jāņa Čakstes Boulevard is located in the central part of Jelgava administrative area, on the bank of the Driksa river. The reconstruction of the boulevard from Raiņa Street to Lielā Street is part of the “Development of the road infrastructure and the arrangement of the Driksa river bank” project (implemented in 2011-2013).

During the reconstruction works sidewalks, carriage way, pedestrian crossings, lighting and parking areas have been reconstructed. Parking lots, promenade with a bicycle trail along the Driksa river, bank protecton, pedestrian lounge area, a seasonal pontoon bridge under the Driksa river bridge, and a bridge across the canal from the Pasta island to the Palace island were built on the site. There is a pedestrian cable bridge “Mītava” leading to the Pasta island across the Driksa river. The steel bridge is suspended in anchor roosts and curved in two axes, making it a technically complex design.
