The “Library of Honour” is a tribute paid to those outstanding residents of the municipality who with their life, work and talent have left a lasting mark on the minds of their fellow citizens, who have significantly influenced the development of their native municipality and have caused another star to shine in the constellation of the outstanding people of Latvia, thus popularizing the name of Gulbene Municipality in Latvia and the world. There are many sincere, smart, honest and active people in our neighbourhood, but only the life stories of the most outstanding ones are included in this simple and at the same time unusual bookshelf. You can ask – what makes them unique in comparison with other people from the same district? Just due to the fact that they have always been torchbearers on the way to the light, always obsessed with some selfless idea. They have never been satisfied with the small amount allotted, but have always needed a full handful of light which they generously share with everyone around them. An upright heart that yearns for the light of the spirit have always been their companion and eternal engine.
The idea of the “Library of Honour” was born on the eve of Latvia's centenary. The aim to perpetuate the memory of these outstanding people and once again thank them for their lifetime achievement. The visual concept of the environmental object was developed by the sculptor Ivars Drulle who was born in Druviena.
