The church was built in 1847 and destroyed in World War I. It was rebuilt in 1928 as a wooden construction with a shingle roof, but it soon burned down. The church was reconstructed in 1936. During the Soviet period the church was adapted to house several residential apartments. Since Latvia regained its independence, St. Nicholas Orthodox Church once again serves as church for a small congregation.
