Bāte-Vaiņode Lutheran Church

The first Bāte-Vaiņode Lutheran Church was built between 1623 and 1637. Thus, we can say that the year of birth of the church is 1637. During the final phase of World War II, the church was destroyed.

When the blasphemy and the destruction of churches was raging all over Latvia, pastor Janis Geide together with longtime congregation leader Jānis Puļķis started to build a new Lutheran church. In 1956 the congregation celebrated victory – the newly built church was consecrated. A bell tower was erected in 1994. In the summer of 2006, the church underwent major renovation. Graduates of Riga Art School made a new neo-Gothic altar. New benches, interior items and flooring were added.

Church services are held regularly every Sunday at noon. Every Tuesday is the pastor's reception from 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm. At 6:00 pm there is a prayer class and Bible study.

The church has a Sunday school, deaconess work with sick congregation members and old people who can't attend church services. They are regularly visited with the opportunity to receive the sacrament at home.

The congregation newspaper “Mājas svētība” ("Home Blessing") has been published since 1998, with a break from 1999 to 2003. Since March 2007, the children's newspaper “Bitīte” has been published in the congregation newspaper.
