The first wooden church was built in 1569. The current church in Asare was built between 1820 and 1823. In 1853, the church was overhauled and the church received a new altarpiece. In 1865, a new organ was installed. In 1909, the stained glass windows made in E. Tode's workshop were installed.
In 1935, the Asare church received the status of a protected monument of the state, but during the Soviet era, this status was annulled. In 2013, the Asare church was again granted the status of an architectural monument of national importance.
