Not far from the Spring Lielbata is the historical Vaiņode or Lielbata Manor, which was built in the mid-19 th century by Baron Osten Saken. Historical evidence suggests that this site was not chosen at random. In 1923, the manor was established as a sanatorium, which not only was the most exemplary in Latvia, but could also be worthy of a similar sanatorium abroad. This was due to the naturally clean and healing environment that has survived to the present day. The Lielbata Manor is now privately owned and not accessible to visitors, but the Spring Lielbata is freely accessible and everyone can taste the spring water.
