Stende (Dižstende) Manor

Stende manor was the property of der Brüggen family. Buildings of different time periods and different styles make its centre one of the largest manor building complexes in Kurzeme. The oldest part of the previously fortified castle is its dwelling corpus; it was built in the beginning of the 16th century. The new manor house was built in the end of the 18th and rebuilt in the beginning of 19th century using the features of Classicism style.

In 1820 a cart house was built opposite the castle and the household buildings - it is one of the best Classicism style building complexes in Kurzeme. Among the manor buildings are also several servants' dwelling houses, stables, a cattle yard, and a barn.

It took quite a long period of time to create the park that surrounds the centre of the building complex. The peculiarity of the Stende park is the fact that the driveway first crosses the forest park and the landscape park and only then it reaches the central manor house. The highest oak in Latvia (36 meters) grows in Stende park. A stock company, Libagu pagasts library and a cultural centre are located in the manor building. It is private propierty.
