Rhododendron 'Peter John Mezitt'
Rhododendron 'Peter John Mezitt' obtained by crossing ♀ Rh. carolinianum x ♂ Rh. dauricum. Displayed in 1939, introduced in 1967. Breeder E. V. Mezitt - Latvian origin American Rhododendron breeder (Weston Nurseries).
Blooms early - late April, early May. Flowers purple (lilac), open bell-shaped, 15 cm long, 3,5-4,5 cm diameter, in compact inflorescences with 3-5 flowers at the ends of shoots. Leaves are elliptical to wide elliptical, 6.5 cm long and 3.5 cm wide, aromatic, reddish-brown in winter. The variety forms a compact, thick, upright, medium-sized shrub up to 1.5 m high. The variety is very durable, winter-hard, richly flowering, resistant to bright sun, drought and wind.
