Meeting of the Rūja and the Ķire rivers is a good starting point for the trip because up to this place the Rūja River is not suitable for paddling. The next 5 km the Rūja flows through Naukšēni allowing to enjoy the landscape of typical rural construction, but further starts Imanta (Jeru) HPP flush. Behind the HPP there starts the construction landscape of Rūjiena, the river here is interesting and sinuous, also the flow here is the fastest throughout the whole section up to the Burtnieks. It is wise to end the trip at the bridge of Rūja school because the entire section up to the Burtnieks is surrounded by marshland.
