Mūrmuiža

Mūrmuiža (formerly Mūri, Mūrumuiža, Masonry mill) is a populated place in Jelgava Muicipality Vilce parish, located in the north of the parish near the River Vilce estuary in Svete near the motorway P103, 2 km from Vilce, 38 km from the county council in Jelgava and 81 km from Riga .

The settlement was built on the land of Gemauerthof, built in 1590, near the Mūrmuiža mill. In 1960 the House for the mentally handicapped (now Ziedkalne Branch of the State Social Care Center "Zemgale") was established in Mūrmuiža. In the south of the village lies the territory of the Vilce Nature Park. In 1705 Mūrmuiža battle took place at Mūrmuiža between attacking Russian army troops and defending Swedish troops, where the Swedes won.
