Mersrags port

Mersrags port is an important economic centre and transport hub in the North Kurzeme region due to the fact that the perspective of enterprises both in the port and the entire region are closely tied with the development of Mersrags port. The port infrastructure (berths, access roads, etc) is a key prerequisite in wood industry development as it offers the optimum logistics solution for production export from North Kurzeme to Western Europe and Scandinavian countries.

The Mersrags port history began in 1842 when a 4 km long channel was dug from Lake Engure to the Sea. The following port development was steady. Recently the port has been developing rapidly, owing to cargo transport and actively involving EU funds for port modernization.

Mersrags port authority successfully fulfils its function, running and managing Mersrags port and its infrastructure.

The port features several EU co-funded projects. Completed projects include port dredging, pier reconstruction, bank reinforcement construction, reconstruction of port berths, building hangars. The port authority also routinely allocates funds for perfecting and improving port infrastructure.

All of these actions serve in bringing Mersrags port to one purpose: becoming a regional port with its own industrial park and logistics centre.
