Litene Manor

The manor was founded by Penkoslavsky, the first starosta of Alūksne, who built warehouses here during the Polish Times. In 1763, Empress Catherine II presented Litene together with Vecgulbene to the count von Münnich, but his sons sold both manors to von Fitinghoff already in 1789. In 1820, the von Wolff family became the owner of the manor, during which the main buildings of the manor were built and the park laid out. The castle was built in the first half of the 19th century according to the model of von Wolff family house in Jaunlaicene. It was built in the style of classical architecture. It has a risalite and a triangular pediment in the central part. The castle was reconstructed in later years. During 1920-30 years, a school was established in the castle. It existed in various forms until 2018 – parish school, primary school, elementary school and secondary school. The castle located on the steep bank of the Pededze River is surrounded by a landscape park with a picturesque linden avenue. In the immediate vicinity, there are several manor buildings – servant houses, a laundry house (now – sports hall), a granary (now – a cultural centre), a stable, a barn, etc.
