Kuldīga Old Town Hall

The old town hall of Kuldiga was built in the 17 th century and is an architectural monument of national significance.

Opposite it is Town Square, or old market Square, which was first mentioned in the documents as early as 1538, when the master of the order allowed the clippers to host the market weekly. In turn, there was a prison in the basements of the town hall.

The old Town Hall underwent both facade and indoor restoration in 2015. To make it possible for visitors to get to know a traditional tradition of building early 19 th-century wooden buildings, historic space planning and anfilade on both floors of the building has been restored, as well as one of two historic mantel chimneys, uncovered building structures, building parts and murals typical of the era. A magistrate hall has also been restored, where the city's most important issues were once decided.

Today, the old town hall is an important part of the cultural heritage of the old town of Kuldiga. This is where the active recreation Centre of Kuldiga operates, the People's applied Arts studios “Rainbow” and “Hook”, the creative photo studio “two rivers”, as well as the “basement” pub is located on the basement floors.

There are often various master classes, creative workshops and exhibitions.
