Jaunķemeri
Jaunķemeri is a part of Jūrmala city in the west of the Gulf of Riga between Kaugurciems and Bigauņciems. They are separated from Ķemeri by Lake Sloka and the river Vecslocene.
The territory of Jaunķemeri is located in Ķemeri National Park, through them goes Kolka Street, which is part of road P128 Sloka-Talsi.
The present-day Jaunķemeri was part of the Duchy of Kurzeme until 1783 and since the Middle Ages through them led the Riga-Kurzeme-Prussian trade route. In 1912 Sloka parish near the sea issued 150 new land plots in dry, old pine dunes, and the new site was named Jaun-Ķemeres (Neu-Kemmern). There were already 20 summer cottages built here in 1914, and a sea pavilion was built at the sea shore.
When the city rights were granted to Kemeri in 1928, Jaunķemeri was included in the city. In 1933, a sports and recreation complex was opened in the woods near the road from the Ķemeri sanatorium, which was later transformed into a fine restaurant "Jautrais ods".
After World War II, Jaunķemeri and Ķemeri were included in the city Jurmala in 1959. After 1967 two large sanatoriums were built here, specializing in balneotherapy - "Jaunķemeri" and sanatorium Янтарный берег ("Dzintarkrasts").
After the restoration of Latvia's independence, the resort rehabilitation center "Jaunķemeri" was established, but the sanatorium Янтарный берег belongs to the Office of the President of the Russian Federation and is a branch of the recovery complex "BOR".
