Insect house in Vermanes Garden

SIA “Rīgas meži” (LTD “Riga Forests”) has placed an interesting and practical environmental object – Insect House in Vērmane Garden.

The insect house is made of natural wood, with a wooden ceiling. It is resistant to adverse weather conditions and can be used as a hibernation site during the inactive winter season and as a refuge on hot summer days.

It provides shelter for several types of insects. Natural cones, wood waste, etc. natural materials used in house construction are a suitable environment for many insect species, but with multiple compartments, it provides the opportunity to live in different species of insects.

Sanita Jane-Dārziņa, the specialist of the Rīdzene district of the garden and park part of SIA “Rīgas meži”, is the author of the house idea, but it was made by gardener Alta Zablocka and other employees of Rīdzene district.
