Historical Centre of Dobele - the Marketplace

Nowadays, the spacious marketplace is the heart of the town, where a variety of events take place. After the reconstruction, the marketplace has acquired cobblestones and a fountain shaped as a giant well. It is the biggest well in Europa.

The square developed alongside the construction of the church in the late 15th century. It is still encircled by two-storey brick buildings constructed in the 20th century, where wealthy landlords established their shops and hotels. The historical Latvian Society House, built in 1939 after the design of architect Pauls Kundziņš, now serves as Dobele Cultural Centre and Tourist Information Centre.
