The church was built from 1674 - 1684 and it was founded by Emmerich von Mirbach, manor owner of that time. Embūte Lutheran church was one of largest in Kurzeme dukedom with 300 seats and it was remarkable with it’s wood-carvings. The church didn’t suffer during World War I. In 1926, the church was renovated, but at the end of World War II it was destroyed. Only the walls and bell tower have remained where one can notice the marks left by artillery shells.
