Barbele Sulphur spring
A small water healing place was operating near the Barbele sulphur spring already during the reign of Duke Jacob of Courland. In 1736, Duke E. J. Biron gave out an order to construct a house for water treatments and swimming near the spring. In 18th century it was the mineralwater spring in Latvia with the most known healing power. During WWI the water cure place was destroyed. Nowadays there is a nice gazebo and a footbridge at the spring so that one can take and drink the water as well as get acquainted with interesting historic tales of the sulphur spring.
